Yale SOM Alumni Advisory Board Election

Thank you for participating in the election of members to the Yale SOM Alumni Advisory Board. Candidates on the following slate have been carefully vetted and selected by the nominations committee of the current board, from a pool of more than thirty nominations, in an attempt to represent as much as possible the full diversity of the more than 7,500 Yale SOM alumni. Please see bios on the candidates below.

2017 Alumni Advisory Board Candidates

Olabosipo Sawyerr-Bassey '07
Olabosipo Sawyerr-Bassey has experience in Customer Service and Mortgage Banking, and worked as a Structured Finance Associate at Standard & Poor’s, rating Residential Mortgage Backed Securities. She has worked as an Analyst for Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) in both Group Strategy and Group Domestic Bank. Ola is currently a Business Analyst for Group Personal Banking at ETI.

Ola graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Economics and a minor in Psychology from Union College, New York.  She has an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Strategy from the Yale School of Management.

She is a Certified Retail Banker (CRB) conferred by The International Academy of Retail Banking, UK and a Balanced Scorecard Professional (BSP) conferred by the Balanced Scorecard Institute and George Washington University, USA. 

Ola was instrumental in the founding of the Yale Club of Nigeria in 2015 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Club.  She has organised the Yale Day of Service in Lagos since she moved back to Nigeria in 2011.  She has served as an interviewer for prospective students at Yale College and has helped organise various SOM Alumni activities in Nigeria.

Ola is married and lives with her family in Lagos, Nigeria.

Vinice Davis '06
Vinice Davis currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer with Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, a partnership organization with Atlanta Public Schools, established to turnaround some of the city’s most challenged schools. She is responsible for the strategic direction of the human resources, finance, facilities, and school operations departments for the organization. She previously served as the Vice President of Improvement Services with AdvancED, leading the systematic evaluation of multiple low-performing schools throughout the US. Vinice also served as the Managing Director of Operations for KIPP Metro Atlanta leading the implementation of talent management and school operations for over five years. Vinice supported charter school openings at the New York City Charter Center and worked as a human capital consultant with Ernst & Young. Vinice holds a BBA from Emory University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Vinice also serves as mentor with Management Leadership for Tomorrow’s Ascend program for first-generation college students. 

Anita Jivani ‘15
Anita Jivani is a Senior Consultant at Deloitte with a focus on advising executives on the planning and implementation of large-scale global projects.  She has been at Deloitte since 2010 focused on organizational design and strategy, change management, executive communications, and talent strategy & planning.  Her clients have spanned across the private, non-profit, and public sectors and have included organizations in financial services, consumer products, healthcare, and travel & hospitality.  Anita was selected for the Graduate School Assistance scholarship program at Deloitte leading her to complete her MBA from Yale's School of Management in 2015.  In 2009, Anita was selected as a Fulbright scholar in Mexico to study the role of business in socio-political advancement and most recently she was selected as a speaker at the 2015 TED conference at Yale University.  Anita has served clients across geographies including Kenya, Brazil, India, China, Costa Rica, Philippines, Argentina, Canada and Mexico.   

Gunhan Karakullukcu '93
Günhan Karakullukçu was born in 1964 in the city of Trabzon, Turkey.

Following his graduation from the Trabzon İskenderpaşa Elementary School, he entered Galatasaray Lycée in Istanbul as a boarding student. He was graduated from the Galatasaray Lycée in 1983 and from the Economics Department of the Administrative Sciences Faculty of the Bosphorus University in 1988. Immediately after his graduation, he started to work as assistant auditor in the Brussels (Belgium) office of the Pricewaterhouse International Auditing Company. His work at the Pricewaterhouse has been another learning process, as a continuation of his school years. He completed his military service in a military unit in Burdur, Turkey in 1990. In 1991, he made a pause on his professional life and started a Master of Public and Private Management (MPPM) at the Yale University in the USA. During the 1992-1993 academic year, he worked on an evaluation study on the economy of Turkey, under the guidance and supervision of Prof. James Tobin, Nobel laureate in Economics. The MPPM degree he received from the Yale University in 1993 is on Public Sector Economics and Monetary Policy.

On his return to Turkey, he started the establishment of an engineering and industrial manufacturing initiative, in 1993. Until May 2004, he assumed the post of general director of this company, having production plants in Adapazari, Turkey. He is currently an executive member of the board of directors. The company has over 150 employees and most recently completed two soccer stadiums for 25,000 and 40,000 spectators.

He continued with his readings and studies on history, politics, law, national defense, foreign policy and economics in parallel with the academic discipline he received at Yale University. Between 2001-2012, he shared his thoughts and views on the changing position of Turkey on the world political map throughout history, the power of the science of economics on changing the human life and bottlenecks of the political system in Turkey, with the Turkish and international public opinion.

He perceives the reforming of the system of political parties and the legal guarantee for the rights and liberties of the political party members as preconditions of practicing politics within the organization of a political party. 

Günhan Karakullukçu is married with two children. He speaks French and English.

Ed O’Connor ‘11
Dr. Edward R. O’Connor is the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Prior to this role, Dr. O’Connor was the provost and chief academic officer and professor in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to his roles at Creighton University, Dr. O'Connor held several positions at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, including dean and professor of Biomedical Sciences for the School of Health Sciences; professor of Medical Sciences at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine; and executive director for the National Institute for Community Health Education. While there, Dr. O'Connor also served as head coach for men's cross country.

Dr. O'Connor earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the Albany Medical College Graduate School of Health Sciences in Albany, New York; a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Leadership from Yale School of Management, Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut; and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from State University of New York at Albany.

Dr. O'Connor has served in leadership and committee positions on the local, regional and national levels and holds membership in several professional societies. He has served on the board of directors of several hospitals and most recently served on the board of CHI Health, an organization consisting of 15 hospitals, two stand-alone behavioral health facilities, and more than 150 employed physician practice locations, which serve Nebraska and western Iowa. He is also the author of dozens of publications and the recipient of many prestigious honors and awards.
