Rebecca (Becky) Vitas Schamis ’00 has been named chair of the Yale SOM Alumni Fund—a key volunteer role at the school supporting fundraising efforts. “We are grateful to Becky for agreeing to serve in this important role,” said Dean Edward A. Snyder, “She’ll have a big impact on our continued success.”
As chair, Schamis will provide important leadership for the Alumni Fund – developing and maintaining significant relationships with alumni and helping raise critical support for the school. Schamis noted, “One thing that makes SOM unique is our community. I’m looking forward to this opportunity to work closely with my fellow alumni and keep them engaged with the school.” Schamis and her husband, David ’95 YC, are loyal supporters of the Yale SOM Alumni Fund and Yale College Alumni Fund. She has been a dedicated SOM volunteer since graduating, serving as an admissions volunteer and a member of her 15th Reunion Gift Committee. An advocate for educational excellence, Schamis also serves as vice president, marketing and communications, for The Ed. Foundation. The Ed. Foundation, a non-profit, community organization that supports educational initiatives that are beyond the basic school district requirements in Port Washington, NY.
Schamis succeeds Tom Halsey ’81, who served as chair for the past six years. Schamis noted that the Alumni Fund reached high points in terms of participation and dollars raised over the last few years and said she is excited to build on that momentum as the school enters its fifth decade.
“It is an honor to thank Tom for his wonderful service to the Yale SOM Alumni Fund and to welcome Becky as the new chair. It’s clear that we are in great hands again,” said Joel Getz, senior associate dean for development and alumni relations. “We are all excited to work with Becky, and the 35 class agents, to advance the work of the school.”
