Dear Yale SOM Alumni,
We are writing to you as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Yale SOM Alumni Advisory Board at an extraordinary time in the School’s history to ask your help in supporting current SOM students.
COVID-19 has affected us all in some way, and most of us are now adapting to new realities, whether they are career disruptions, financial difficulties, or illness. One of the Alumni Advisory Board’s practices is communicating with student representatives. Usually, that responsibility is an enjoyable one; this semester, however, is different. In addition to hearing about students transitioning to online classes and social distancing from peers, faculty, and staff, we have heard firsthand stories of the disappointment and uncertainty students are facing in their careers. Some students have had summer internships rescinded or full-time start dates delayed. We have all been SOM students, so I am sure you can imagine the anxiety these students feel.
To help our fellow SOM’ers, we are asking you, the SOM alumni, to come together at this time of acute need; if you are in a position to offer a summer internship or a full-time position, now is the time to act.
The alumni network is a key factor students consider when they choose which business school to attend. The two of us represent very distinct eras of the school (1986 and 2011), yet we share a deep commitment to the School that is broadly shared by SOM alumni. In this time of great crisis, we all have an opportunity to show the students our strength and caring. It is our hope that coming through for the students in this time of great need will make a huge difference to them personally and to the School as a whole.
- If you have an internship or full-time position to offer, please contact Abigail Kies at the Career Development Office (CDO) (firstname.lastname@example.org). The CDO has a student resume book on-hand, which is available on request.
- If you would like to offer words of advice or encouragement to the students, please contact the Alumni Advisory Board (email@example.com). Please keep your comments brief and include your name, class year, degree, and if you choose, your company and position. We will aggregate responses and send them to the students.
We thank you for your consideration and hope you are staying safe and healthy. Please reach out to us if you have any other questions or concerns.
