Yale SOM Case Studies

Reading cases was a requirement during your school days, but many alums have found it fun to dig into a case study (or two) even after graduation! Case studies provide an interesting way of adding to professional development and keeping up with what is happening at the school.

For over ten years, Yale SOM’s Case Research and Development Team (CRDT) have been producing case studies in conjunction with faculty. Yale cases come in two formats – ‘cooked’ (business narratives presented in .pdf format) and ‘raw’ (online, multimedia cases that include videos, spreadsheets, reports, and links to articles). In addition, CRDT sometimes collaborates with our partners in the Global Network for Advanced Management to produce special Global Network cases on organizations of general interest. CRDT also assists faculty at other professional schools at Yale to prepare case studies of relevance to their students.

Unlike many other business schools, Yale SOM makes all of these cases available for free to its alumni (who have a valid Yale NetId).  All others may purchase Yale SOM case studies for a nominal fee through one of Yale CRDT’s publishing partners.

The best way for alumni to find and access cases is through the SOM Case Directory. The directory contains listings for over 200 cases and allows for easy searching by keywords. Or browse cases by perspective to see all the cases that the SOM has in a particular area.  Check back often, as the case inventory continues to grow each month!
